SHELTER OFFERS FREE PET BOARDING FOR WILDFIRE EVACUEES

With ‘fire season’ upon us, Wenatchee Valley Humane Society (WVHS) reminds pet owners that those who are issued a level 3 evacuation notice during a wildfire can look to the shelter for free emergency pet boarding.

“Emergencies like these are when pet owners need the Humane Society the most,” says Dawn Davies, Executive Director. “We are a community. If our neighbors are worried about losing their homes, we can help reduce some of the stress by providing a safe shelter for their pets.”

Anyone interested in emergency boarding should call the shelter ahead of time to ensure there is space available, even if that means calling while driving to the shelter. During office hours of 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, evacuees can reach the shelter’s front desk by dialing 509-662-9577, option 2. After hours, Animal Care and Control on call can assist those in need of boarding at 509-662-9577, option 1. Callers should leave a message if sent to voicemail and an officer will call back. If there isn’t a return call within 15 minutes, callers are encouraged to call the number again.

Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is located at 1474 S. Wenatchee Avenue in Wenatchee.

About WVHS
Founded in 1967, the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization with a mission to serve Chelan and Douglas Counties through education, protection and pet adoptions. WVHS cares for displaced pets, rescues injured and lost animals, investigates animal cruelties, and finds homes for orphaned animals. WVHS engages in a Pets for Life philosophy by providing low cost spay/neuter programs, periodic vaccination clinics, and hosting pet food assistance banks to income-qualified residents throughout its community. By caring for pets and the people who love them, WVHS is creating a humane society in the Wenatchee Valley. If you would like to volunteer, donate, or more information on how you can help, visit wenatcheehumane.org, email wvhs@wenatcheehumane.org or call (509) 662-9577.
